About Us.

The man behind the crown

Hi friends,

I’m Brenden, and I’m the artist/product designer/owner of Luck of Kings. I grew up in the South-East suburbs of Melbourne, Australia - but mentally I spent my time in the world of make believe.

For my whole life, I’ve been told that I don’t pay enough attention to things - and they’re probably right, because I’m always thinking about things that I want to draw instead. I love living in my imagination - which is probably why I like to draw so much. For me, drawing is a physical extension of my weird thoughts - so I can show people why it’s so wonderful to spend time in my own head.

I am currently designing playing cards, guitar picks and other oddities that you can take with you - so you can have a piece of passion with you wherever you go.

Come join me, and see why I like to spend so much time in my head.

What is Luck of Kings?

The Context: When I was younger - it was always my dream to be on the other side of a table at a comic book convention (originally I wanted to be there as a guest comic book artist but hey, dreams change). The artist alley was always one of my favourite sections of the conventions, seeing so many talented artists with so many unique visions and divine art styles.

Over the years of going to cons and buying amazing pieces of art, I came across the age old problem - I ran out of wall space. An annoying dilemma that sparked a vision within me. I wanted a way for people to still support artists, without the burden of running out of wall space.

The Answer: Luck of Kings is the brand of Melbourne artist Brenden de Vries - helping ignite his vision of bringing a piece of passion wherever you go. Playing Cards and Guitar Picks - portable art that won’t take up too much space in your life.

Quality is the utmost importance, making sure your art can last for as long as possible.

Come and take a piece of passion with you in your life <3

Let's go back to the beginning...

The beginning of a new era

My baby brand is born in Melbourne, Australia - aiming to deliver a piece of passion to everyone in the comic book conventions market.

Our First deck of playing cards is created - based on MHA anime.

We tabled at a Comic Book convention for the first time with the Monash Drawing Club at Animaga, with our good friends at The Sunday Co.

Luck of Kings is born

March - The adventure begins! After attending comic book conventions for my entire life - we exhibited independently for the first time ever at Supanova - Melbourne.

July - A new brand is born. We officially change our brand to Luck of Kings.

August - New product line: We launched our first ever line of Anime and Pop Culture inspired guitar picks.

The unplanned pandemic

Just as we got started, we had to stop due to COVID-19. However in this pandemic, we saw opportunity!

We honed our crafting ability to release bigger and better decks to come!

(We started working on some album covers, too! This is one I did for Jake Plumb's 2020 single - "Need You". Hell of a song - check it out!)

Let’s crack it up a notch

2021 - The release of our first original deck of cards: "Femme Fatale".

We ended up releasing 4 decks of cards this year! This year was the first time we tested designs on number cards.

2022 - Our greatest challenge yet - The DMN SLYR Deck is released!

This deck took 9 months to complete.

2023 - Our first year of the Australian convention circuit.17 Conventions in 36 weeks

Luck of Kings to the moon!

We relaunched our website! Bigger and better than ever!

We have so many cool new things to show you this year - stay tuned for our next chapter!

Let's see what all the fuss is about...
